On this day, March 7, in 1908 – Italian Actress Anna Magnani was born.
Of her 49 film roles, her most famous is in ‘The Rose Tattoo’ where she won the Academy Award for Best Actress.
For the same role she also won the BAFTA , Golden Globe, National Board of Review and New York Film Critics Awards.

She had not appeared in a film for 3 years prior to her award winning performance.  Of note, she then only appeared in 9 films over the next 14 years.
